Our School

Welcome to Stratford

Found in the heart of East Nashville, located halfway between Shelby Park and Gallatin Ave, Stratford STEM Magnet High School has been an integral part of the neighborhood since its founding in 1961. With a colorful and storied history, strong academic programs and career pathways, and exciting athletic and extracurricular activities, Stratford is once again the beating heart of the East Nashville Community.

  • Community Events: Open House, Academy Showcase, music & arts performances, sporting events, community tailgates, program celebrations
  • Community Resources: green spaces, tennis courts, track and fields, pollinator gardens
  • Convenient to East Nashville and public transportation, Stratford is #EastNashvilleStrong: a neighborhood school filled with neighborhood students

At Stratford, students belong to both a magnet and an academy school. In our academies, we focus on science, technology, engineering and math in all of our classes, as well as provide interdisciplinary, project-based learning experiences that connect students to the real world.

Students begin during their 9th grade year in the AVID Academy, which provides a small supportive environment as students learn what it means to be in high school. From there, they choose a pathway in one of two career Academies: the Academy of Science & Engineering and the Academy of National Safety & Security Technologies.

In addition to these Academies, Stratford offers numerous Advanced Placement (AP) courses, including biology, calculus, English Literature, English Language, Economics, government, music theory, physics, U.S. History and World History. Stratford also offers advanced classes through the Cambridge International Examinations program, giving them the chance to earn an Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) diploma.
